We are thrilled to be expanding our skills and knowledge in the skincare world by introducing a brand new treatment to the clinic. The incredible new SkinPen treatment has many amazing benefits for your skin which I will go through in detail within this blog.
What is the SkinPen treatment?
SkinPen is a micro-needling device that is clinically proven to have visible results after one treatment sessions. The precision of the SkinPen creates controlled micro-injuries within the surface of the skin which stimulate the body’s natural wound healing system. This natural process ignites the dispense of natural growth factors to improve your collagen formation as well as cellular tissue.
The collagen induction helps rejuvenates the epidermal integrity, resulting in an improved appearance of both fine lines and wrinkles. If you have scar tissue, the SkinPen’s precision will assist in remodelling this tissue whilst maintaining the overall structure of the skin.
SkinPen can be used on all areas of the face and body and can treat multiple concerns, how amazing!
The three different phases
Phase 1 - This is known as the inflammation phase. The piercing of the skin activates a response in your immune system which disinfects the micro-wounds, increases blood flow and encourage new tissue formation.
Phase 2 - Referred to as the proliferation phase. A new group of blood vessels develop as a result to wound rebuilding which involves new granulation cells.
Phase 3 - The Remodelling phase. The wound is replaced with new blood vessels and Dermal tissues.

What to expect
Before the treatment:
Of course, this goes without saying in our clinic, one of our fully trained nurse practitioners will carry out a consultation to evaluate your skin before we book you in for the treatment. This is to assess whether your skin is suitable for the procedure and they will discuss the possible risks and benefits of the treatment too.
Topical anaesthetic will be applied to the required area of the body around 20-30 minutes before the treatment begins for added comfort. The topical anaesthetic is just a type of anaesthetic that can be applied directly to the skin.
During the treatment:
Once you are settled in, comfortable and when the anaesthetic has kicked in, the SkinPen will be slowly and carefully glide across the specific area of concern using Skinfuse LIFT HG (allergy-free from cytotoxic) in order to create hundreds of microscopic puncture wounds which ignites the natural repair process and initiates the collagen and elastin production. At this stage, Erythema should be visible with a chance of the sight of blood spotting across the skin. All this shows is that the depth is to the correct setting in order to penetrate deep enough into the skin.
After the treatment:
Please do avoid touching the area in which the treatment was carried out and refrain from applying any products onto this skin for 12 hours post-treatment to prevent any infection. There is also a post-treatment Skinfuse LIFT HG which can be applied to help soothe that area of skin. Once 12 hours have passed the Skinfuse Rescue Calming complex can be used to support the remodelling of your skin. You must note that the treated area will be red and warm for 24-48 hours after the treatment has been carried out, however, the majority of people see a reduction after 24 hours. More specific and in-depth after-treatment instructions will be explained to you when you are in the clinic with our trained nurses.
